Benton County, Wash.— A shooting incident, and spree of multiple arsons led to a confirmed officer-involved shooting in West Richland on Wednesday. It began with a shooting and two subsequent house fires near Two Rivers Park in Finley. After responding to the call, authorities spoke with witnesses to identify a suspect.
 

“They followed that vehicle into the city of West Richland, where an incident took place and it’s believed officers were involved in a shooting with a suspect male”, said Benton County Interim Sheriff John Law. The OIS occurred between the 3800 and 4500 blocks of Van Giesen near 38th Ave., where the KONA news crew noted a flaming vehicle.

 

A post on the Benton County Sheriff Facebook page states that the two incidents are connect to multiple smaller fires—including at the Local IBEW 112 building and Tri Tech School in Kennewick, and another Union building on Gave Blvd in Richland.

The office says Van Giesen will be closed for several hours and the scene in West Richland will be turned over to the Special Investigations Unit.

 

The investigation is currently ongoing.
