KENNEWICK, Wash.-- Investigators with the Kennewick Police Department are still working to piece together the events that led to a 21-year old woman falling out of car she was riding in early on the morning of Sunday, October 4, 2020, where she was then run over by at least one vehicle.

The driver of the car Ashley Guevara was riding in remained at the scene of the incident at Clearwater Dr. and Morain in Kennewick, but a second car was believed to have possibly been involved as well.

Lt. Aaron Clem with the Kennewick Police Department says the 23-year old driver of that second vehicle came forward last week, and is cooperating with the investigation.

"The Washington State Patrol Crime Lab is coming out this week to do a forensic examination on both the car that she was riding in, and the second car to try and help determine what exactly happened that night," Clem said.

Investigators had hoped that traffic cameras mounted on the traffic signals might provide some insight into how Guevara died.

"Unfortunately traffic cameras are not designed for-- they're not high resolution, they're not designed to really give us a good view of what happened. They're actually designed for traffic control. So, yes, we have the traffic camera footage, but it doesn't really give us a good look at what happened," said Clem.

Once the WSP Crime Lab completes its forensic exam, and the coroner submits its medical examiner report, the reports will go to the prosecuting attorney's office to determine whether charges will be filed.

Ashley's family, including her toddler son, laid the young woman to rest on Friday. Friends have established a GoFundMe account to help with funeral expenses.
