A veteran received a welcome surprise from the Kennewick police department.

Officers say they received a call from a California man's parents over the weekend, saying their son had ran out of gas in town and forgotten his wallet. Officers say he is a veteran who recently returned home from Afghanistan, he is also suffering from PTSD.

Using the Community Care Fund officers paid for a full tank so he could make it to Montana to visit family.

Kennewick police say he was very appreciative and asked how to pay them back. But they let him know the citizens provided the fund and were thankful for his service and he owed us nothing.
