Mabton man killed in head-on crash

GRANGER, Wash.-- A two car crash in Yakima County claimed the life of a Mabton man over the weekend.

Washington State Patrol responded to the are of Highway 223 near Indian Church Road, where two pick-ups collided head-on just before 9:00 PM Saturday.

Troopers reported that a commercial truck driven by Hugo Nunez, 38, Yakima, was headed south when it crossed the center line, hitting an oncoming pick-up.

The driver of the pick-up, identified as Omar Chavez-Sanchez, 37, Mabton, died at the scene.

Nunez was taken to Astria Sunnyside Hospital to be treated for injuries he received in the crash.

Investigators say alcohol or drugs were not a factor in the crash.

WSP is investigating, and charges are pending.
