(Kennewick, WA) -- Kamiakin High School will most likely be able to keep it's Braves mascot, while Legacy will have to retire the Thunderbirds. House Bill 1356, which became law in April bans Native American mascots unless a federally-recognized tribe signs off on it. Kennewick School District says they are working with Yakima Nation on an agreement allowing them to keep the Braves. As for Legacy High, Yakima Nation says the Thunderbird is more connected to coastal tribes, so the school will begin the rebranding process.
