Kennewick Fire Investigators say an early morning fire does not appear suspicious, even though it likely started outside of a shed, and quickly spread to two homes. The fire was reported at a home on the 1800 block of Rainier Street early Thursday morning.

Fire Investigator Brian Ellis says there were people inside both homes, and at least one dog inside one of the houses. Everyone got out safely.

Ellis says it wasn't the wind that caused the fire to spread.

"When you have high heat release from whatever is burning in a small area with exposures to the houses, you're going to get that radiated that's going to basically light those other exposures on fire," Ellis said.

One of the homes appears to have also had a lot of debris in the back yard, making it a challenge for fire fighters to access the back of the house.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
