Dog killed by cougar in Kittitas County

A dog died from his injuries after getting attacked by a cougar in Ronald, just north of Cle Elum.

The Kittitas County Sheriff's Office says a woman was walking with her dog off-leash when a cougar crossed their path. The woman told police that the dog was not on a leash and the animals started fighting so she ran for help.

When she got back with her neighbor, officers say the animals were still fighting. The neighbor's friend, Edward Bent, shot at the cougar and it ran off. They say there was no sign where the cougar had been hit.

Fish and Wildlife officials responded but were unable to locate the cougar and the dog died from it's injuries.
