A fire started in a large pile of tree limbs and debris near the Veterans Memorial Golf Course in Walla Walla.

Walla Walla Firefighters say at 12:15 p.m. they were called to a fire that started in a pile about 100-feet by 50-feet. Other fire departments were called to help with mutual aid.

Crews say they were able to keep it contained to the area and avoid damaging the green or spreading to a field nearby.

Firefighters say wheat stubble borders the area, and quick action prevented the fire from spreading further. Firefighters will be monitoring the site overnight to ensure that it is completely extinguished.
