(Olympia, WA) -- Employers in Washington state will soon have to include salary and benefits information in job postings. Governor Jay Inslee signed off SB 5761 requiring employers with 15 or more workers to include that info in postings rather than waiting until after they make an offer to a candidate.

Supporters say the new law is aimed at leveling the playing field for women and people of color--who are often offered less money for the same job than white male candidates. Those opposed argue the measure could lead to companies deliberately low-balling salary ranges, and limit a job seeker's ability to negotiate for higher pay.

The law will take effect next January.
