KENNEWICK, Wash. - The Southridge area of Kennewick will be seeing new developments on their roadways, with the US 395-Ridgeline Interchange project starting soon.

Evelyn Lusignan with the City of Kennewick says the new under-crossing of 395 will create more opportunities for growth in that area, "Having this interchange is going to significantly increase the access in that area and also economic development. There's definitely more properties that will be developed when they can have that access to the highway."

Lusignan adds that construction will start as soon as Monday, April 5, "It starts next week, people will start seeing work happening on the seats side of 395, preparing for some ramps that will take place, so some excavation will begin on Monday. The Bofer Canyon road needs to be relocated and we have a water line to move. It's done in phases to minimize disruption to traffic."

After that, the construction milestones will be:

  1. Us 395 traffic will be diverted to the east in a bypass route, with traffic moved onto the constructed diversion route approximately September 1.
  2. Once traffic is detoured, the under crossing of 395 will be excavated and constructed, along with the southbound on/off ramps at Ridgeline. This work will continue through the winter until May 2022.
  3. Approximately May 4, 2022, traffic will be moved back on the Main US 395 route. At that point, the detour bypass will be removed, the northbound on/off ramps will be constructed, the additional northbound 395 lane will be constructed, the Zintel roundabout will be constructed, and the Hildebrand intersection expansion and new traffic signal work will all take place - all during the summer of 2022.
  4. Final paving and striping work will be performed

The project is estimated to be completed in the fall of 2022.
