Kennewick Police say a driver has been taken into custody after hitting and injuring a pedestrian Sunday night.

According to Officer Cory McGee, the accident happened at about 8:20 pm at the intersection of W. Kennewick Ave. and N. Olympia St where a 53-year-old woman was injured. According to a press release, the victim was crossing the street when she was hit.

Police say the woman's injuries are serious.

 The unidentified driver of the vehicle was taken into custody for suspicion of driving under the influence.

The intersection was closed for a couple of hours while investigators processed the scene.

Police and ambulances responded to a 53 year old female pedestrian hit while walking at the intersection of N. Olympia St. and W. Kennewick Ave. around 8:15 pm. Sunday night.

She appeared conscious while lying on the ground, with multiple injuries as EMTs attended to her before taking her to the hospital. A witness said she may have been with her dog at the time.
