Keeping Outdoor Pets Safe in the Heat
TRI-CITIES, Wash. - With temperatures set to rise to the 90's or even triple digits this coming week, Rebecca Howard with the Tri-Cities Animal Shelter shares some tips on how to keep your outdoor animals from overheating.
"You always want to have shelter for the animal, especially with the hot weather coming up. You might want to add a mister or fan as well. Put that dog house or shelter under shade so they won't be in the direct sun, and make sure you have plenty of water for the animal."
Howard adds that if your animal is tethered outside, it's important to make sure they are tied safely.
"When an animal has to be tied outside because they might jump over the fence or dig under the yard and get out, you just want to make sure that animal is tethered to a space that he's not gonna get tangled up in. Even inside a kennel, a dog can jump and choke itself out by jumping over that and being tethered to it. You just want to make sure that you pet is safe outside at all times."
