A dog died as a result of a house fire crews are working to put out off Canal and Metaline in Kennewick.

Kennewick Fire PIO Brian Ellis says crews were called out to 3312 W. Metaline Place at around 11:30 a.m. for reports of a fire on the back side of a Kennewick home. The fire spread from an alcove to the back of the house, then spread to the inside and into the attic. Crews say there were possibly two people inside, and both were able to get out safely.

Firefighters say the family's dog was pulled out of the home about 20 minutes after fire fighters arrived. They performed CPR on the pet for about 5 minutes, but weren't able to revive the dog.

The cause remains under investigation.

Crews from Kennewick and Benton County Fire District #1 were called to the scene and Benton PUD crews also came out to cut power to the home.
