Five Tri-Cities students will start their freshman of college at Washington State University Tri-Cities as members of the university’s new class of STEM scholars.

According to a press release from WSU Ti-Cities, each student scholar receives a $8,400 per year scholarship and joins the university’s STEM Learning Community. The community of students get involved as a group and as individuals in a number of extracurricular opportunities and activities in the STEM fields.

The 2017 class of STEM Scholars includes:

  • Aaron Engebretson – Liberty Christian High School
  • Jared Johnson – Richland High School
  • Destiny Ledesma – Hanford High School
  • Diamond Madden – Southridge High School
  • Louis Theriault – Mid-Columbia Partnership

In order to qualify, studentsneed a minimum high school grade-point average of 3.75 based on a 4.0-scale, and need to be enrolled as a full-time student at WSU Tri-Cities, pursuing a STEM-based major. Participating in STEM Learning Community activities offered through the campus is also required.
