An eight-year-old is dead and five adults hurt in a two-car crash near Ephrata Wednesday night.

Grant County deputies say they were responding to a possible vehicle prowl on Nob Hill Drive Northeast, but before they arrived the SUV took off and ran a stop-sign hitting a pick-up.

The force of the crash caused the pick-up to hit a garage, and the three people inside the truck had to be pulled out by firefighters. The 8-year-old girl was a passenger and suffered multiple injuries. She later died at Columbia Basin Hospital in Ephrata. The driver and her father, Justin Grubb of Ephrata, who is a Grant County Sheriff’s Corrections Deputy, off-duty at the time, sustained serious injuries and was taken to a hospital in Moses Lake. Grubb's girlfriend, Elizabeth Mills, from East Wenatchee, was also critically injured and was flown by Life Flight to a hospital in Spokane.

The SUV rolled on its side and hit a power pole. The driver Neil McLeod, from Ephrata, was arrested by police and taken to the hospital. He is now facing charges of DUI related to drugs, vehicular homicide and vehicular assault. The two other passengers had non-life threatening injuries and were taken to local hospitals.

Sheriff Tom Jones offered his sympathies and said in a statement, “Because the sheriff’s office family was impacted by this tragedy, sheriff’s office corrections staff were gathered and notified by the GCSO administration. Sheriff’s Chaplain Dennis Fountain was on-hand providing compassionate care and assisting family and co-workers. Please join me by taking a moment and saying a prayer for everyone impacted by this heartbreaking turn of events."

Deputies say a special account has been setup at the "Washington Trust Bank," for those who wish to donate to the family. The account is under, "Justin Grubb."
