(Kennewick, WA) -- A Legacy High School student is in custody after police discovered he had a loaded in gun in his possession on school grounds. Kennewick Police contacted the school Tuesday after they learned the 16-year-old might be connected to a shooting incident that occurred near the Yoke's Fresh Market off 27th and Olympia last week. Upon further investigation, detectives developed probable cause for the teen being a felon in possession of a firearm.


The department contacted the school and took the juvenile into custody without incident. He was searched then booked into the Benton-Franklin Juvenile Detention Center for the following charges:


* Unlawful Possession of a Firearm - 2nd degree
* Possession of a Stolen Firearm
* Possession of a Firearm on School Property

It is unknown what role the juvenile had in the shooting incident; that investigation is still ongoing investigation.
