Yakima police say a drive-by shooting, which killed a 14-year-old, is now believed to be gang-related.

Yakima police PIO Mike Bastinelli says investigators believed the shooting is related to a gang because of the clothing the teen was wearing and the nature of the crime.

Officers also identified the Union Gap teen as Kabin Smith and believe an autopsy will be conducted by the Yakima County corner.

Police were called to the area about 11:30 Monday morning after reports Smith was standing on the corner of Cornell Ave & W King St. in Yakima when he was shot by those inside a car driving by. The 14-year-old was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

Several shell casings were found in the area of the shooting, but officers did not release how many shots were fired or how many times the male victim was hit.

Bastinelli says late Monday afternoon, officers found the car matching the description of the one involved in front of a Yakima home. Several people in the home were taken into custody and have undergone interviews. One of the people was arrested on an unrelated warrant. Officers say they are still investigating and searching for suspects.

Details continue to be released and we will continue to update this story.
