BENTON COUNTY, Wash.-Witnesses indicated someone was target shooting Friday evening just before a wildfire broke out in the Badger Canyon area.

But according to fire officials, the initial attack kept the blaze from doing more damage.

"It was a dynamic situation and the initial attack folks did a great job. They prioritized the values at risk, and kept the fire from impacting those", said Unified Incident Commander Lonnie Newton.

The blaze scorched about 200 acres, but no homes were lost and no injuries reported.

"There was a low pressure system moving through and we had some high winds with forecasts up to 25 miles per hour gusts out of the north, challenging fire situation of course", Newton added.

The cause continues to be investigated.
