(Olympia, WA) -- The Washington State Legislature will consider a bill next year to reduce the number of catalytic converter thefts. Senator Jeff Wilson of Longview is sponsoring the bill that would require scrap dealers to only buy catalytic converters from businesses or vehicle owners. It's modeled after a law in Oregon that takes effect on January 1st.

Thefts of catalytic converters from vehicles have spiked, in large part, due to the increasing value of the metal inside.
