(Prosser, WA) -- Authorities had to shut down eastbound I-82 near Prosser Thursday morning after a van collided with a semi truck. According to State Trooper Chris Thorson, the crash occurred around 7:30am. It took crews over an hour to remove the driver of the van from his vehicle. He was then flown to the hospital via Life Flight with serious injuries. The driver of the semi was not injured.

Authorities diverted traffic to clear the scene. Both eastbound lanes were later reopened, but it took some time for the three-mile traffic backup to clear out. The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
