PROSSER, Wash.-- Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson has awarded a Prosser Police Officer with the Attorney General's Office Law Enforcement Medal of Honor.

A committee selected Officer Antonio Bustamante to receive the award as a result of his actions during an active shooter event at the Canyon Park Apartments in August of 2019.

During a confrontation with a suspect, Officer Bustamante was shot in the thigh, but continued working to secure the area and provide other responding officers with information about the suspected shooter.

"Officer Bustamante is a valued member of our police force and demonstrates our Core Values in everything he does," said Mayor Randy Taylor. "We are pleased to have someone of his caliber on our team, and congratulate him on his great recognition."

Officer Bustamante started his career with the Prosser Police Department as a Reserve Officer in 2016, before being hired as a full-time officer in 2018.
