Officer shot responding to call in Prosser

A Prosser Police Officer suffered a gunshot wound to the leg while responding to a report of a suspicious situation early Monday morning.

The call came in at about 1:00 am.

A resident in a unit of the Canyon Park Apartments on Canyon Road reported that someone was trying to break into the apartment.

According to scanner traffic, the person told dispatchers that someone wearing all black clothing was shaking the front door handle and ringing the doorbell.

The female caller also told dispatchers that the suspect was known to carry guns, but that they didn't see any weapons on the person.

Officers responded, and just a few minutes later reported that shots had been fired, with one officer hit in is right thigh.

The suspect fled the scene, running to the west.

Officers from surrounding agencies responded to the scene to help search for the suspect.

The officer was transported to Prosser Memorial with non-life-threatening injuries.
