A new regulation is in place that may impact over 100 food trucks serving the state.

Matthew Erlich with the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries says the rule will require food trucks traveling from Oregon to meet the same safety standards as Washington.

“Frankly, this is all about safety to not only the people working in the food trucks are safe, but those waiting in line to get some great food are also safe,” says Erlich.

Erlich says previously food trucks used outside Washington for six months or more were generally exempt from state standards. Those food trucks will now need to have a permit and inspection.

Last year, 250 trucks in the state applied for licenses, but that number is expected to grow with the new rule and as the popularity of food trucks grows.
