(Kennewick, WA) -- Authorities have a man in custody after a report of someone trying to break into his 18-wheeler. Police were on scene around 12:45am Monday morning after truck driver called. They arrived to find the suspect pointing a gun at the truck driver. A KPD officer ordered the suspect to drop the gun, and he immediately complied. The suspect then attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended. The firearm was recovered and was, in fact, a BB gun.


Though the name has not yet been released, the suspect has had previous encounters with officers and they were aware of who he was. He was booked into the Benton County Jail on 1st Degree Assault, 1st degree Robbery, and an outstanding warrant for his arrest.


Police then notified local mental health officials so they could attempt to provide mental health assistance.
