BENTON COUNTY--Wash.--The Benton County Board of Commissioners hosting a special board meeting on Tuesday. The commissioners expect to conduct interviews, then evaluate the qualifications of candidates for appointment to the Benton County Sheriff position. Former Sheriff Jerry Hatcher was recalled after the August Primary Election, and Commander Jon Law has been Acting County Sheriff since mid-August. He is one of three finalists submitted by the Benton County Republican Party earlier this month--along with former Commander Tom Croskrey and retired jail Capt. John Hodge.

The Appointed Sheriff will serve until the next available general election. Since the deadline for filing for the 2021 General Election was in May, the Appointed Sheriff will remain in office until the end of 2022. The next elected Benton County Sheriff will not take office until January 1, 2023.
