Desert Aire man dies after crashing into apple bins near Mattawa

A 34-year-old Desert Aire man died in a car crash Friday night about one-half mile east of State Route-243.

The driver, missed a slight curve in the road and crashed into apple bins stacked along the south side of the road near Mattawa.

Camilo Velez’s body is in the care of Grant County Coroner, whose staff will conduct an autopsy. Camilo Velez’s family has been notified.

According to investigators, alcohol was a factor but the man was wearing a seat belt in the crash.
