A new study links wildfire smoke to a rise in cases of COVID-19 in Washington state last year. The study performed by Harvard University found a connection between exposure to wildfire smoke and high levels of fine particulate matter and an increase in symptomatic cases of COVID-19. Researchers say it's possible that people with asymptomatic cases of COVID-19 may have begun developing symptoms after being exposed to smoke and particulate matter. The study looked at data from counties that had active fires between March and December of 2020.
