(Olympia, WA) -- Thousands of residents along the coast of the pacific northwest are without power Monday morning following outages caused by strong weekend storms. Puget Sound Energy says over 26,000 customers were still in the dark as of 3:30am. More than 100,000 customers were without electricity at the height of the outages on Sunday. The wind has toppled trees and power lines, with the Washington State Department of Transportation reporting eleven instances of collapsed trees on roadways, including on the 405. Two people were also killed in Issaquah when a falling tree crushed the car they were traveling in.

Meanwhile, over a thousand people remain without power in Oregon. Portland General Electric reports over 1,700 customers were still in the dark as of 4 o'clock Monday morning. Another 17 Pacific Power customers also remain without electricity. More than 22,000 customers were without power at the height of the outages.

The National Weather Service says outages could persist through the day with strong winds and rain expected to continue until Tuesday.
