Three Tri-Cities residents were hurt Saturday morning in a chain-reaction crash on I-90 Saturday morning.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the incident started when a 2010 Dodge Avenger driven by 29-year old Jennifer Slee from Lewiston, ID, broke down in the right-hand lane, causing a 2015 Hyundai Elantra driven by 19-year old Sierra Biddle from Spokane to come to a stop behind it.

Three motorcycles, also headed eastbound failed to stop, and crashed into the Elantra, which then pushed it into the Avenger.

The motorcycle riders, 52-year old Joseph Alvarez and 49-year old Lynda DeGraaf, both from Pasco, along with 46-year old Wesley Roberson from Kennewick, each plowed into the back of the Elantra.

Alvarez and DeGraaf were each take to the hospital by ambulance, and Roberson was taken to the hospital on a private vehicle. Two other motorcycles were traveling with them and were not involved in the collision. The drivers in the two cars were not hurt. The motorcyclists will each be cited for following too close.

Investigators say drugs or alcohol did not appear to play a role in the accident.
