At least one shed and a few cars were destroyed by a fast-moving brush fire in a Kennewick neighborhood off West 12th Avenue.

Kennewick Fire Investigator Brian Elis says they were called out to an area off the 3900 block of W. 12th Avenue for a brush fire. By time fire crews had arrived, the wind spread the fire into several nearby sheds.

"That wind kicks it up, drives it a lot farther and faster than sometimes we can catch it, so we have to leap frog in front of it and start doing battle on it then," says Elis.

The other issue crews ran into was a nearby water source. Firefighters say they had to drag a hose about a half mile away to get water from a hydrant, other fire crews used water from the Benton County trucks and the third option they used was pulling water from the irrigation canal.

Elis says the flames scorched 3 acres and both Kennewick and Benton County District #1 were called out to help put out the flames.
