(Seattle, WA) -- The Seattle City Council is considering a proposal that would ensure app-based gig workers are paid minimum wage. Councilmembers Lisa Herbold and Andrew Lewis introduced the proposal titled "PayUp" yesterday [Thursday]. The bill would require companies like Uber and DoorDash to pay employees Seattle's minimum wage using a formula that takes into consideration factors like per-mile amount, per-minute amount and engaged minutes and miles.

The ordinance must be discussed by the full council before it comes up for a vote, so there is a chance no further action could be taken until after this month.
