SALEM, Ore.-Two weeks ago, there were over 200,000 K-through-12 students in Oregon receiving at some in-person learning. This week, that number will grow thanks to a directive from Governor Kate Brown.

"However, returning to the classroom this spring doesn't mean a return to normal", Oregon Governor Kate Brown notes. "Things are going to look a little different, distance learning days will still be needed as we transition back to in-person learning."

But according to Colt Gill, the Director of the state's Education Department, parents should feel confident in sending their kids back to class.

"Schools not only provide the education that Oregon's children need to succeed, but also to provide social and emotional growth and supports, nutritious meals on a daily basis, and access to medical care. It is time to go back to our school buildings. We can do this with confidence and with safety. We know hoe to pivot if conditions change unexpectedly."

Governor Brown issued the executive order earlier this month requiring all schools in Oregon offer hybrid OR in-person instruction by this week for K-through-5th grades, and April 19th for middle and high schools.
