One of the many benefits of living in the Mid-Columbia Basin... is the access to a wide variety of fresh produce.

One opportunity to get your hands on early crops is at the Farmer's Market in downtown Kennewick which is held every Thursday through October... starting Thursday, June 1st.

All the common staples you see at all the farmer's markets, it's all going to be in the same area that we had it last year," said Dan Smith, Executive Director of the Historic Downtown Kennewick Partnership which organizes the market. "We're going to have food and produce. We have another wine vendor coming this year that wasn't here last year."

The market had been moved out the Southridge Sports Complex for several years, and moved back into the downtown area last year. The move has been a positive one for downtown businesses, who have noticed an increase in traffic.

"Bringing the farmer's market down here gets people into the downtown area, and then they can see the other business we have down here. A lot people don't get to see what we have to offer if they're not intentionally coming down to this area."

He says some downtown businesses extend their hours on Thursday's to accommodate shoppers attending the farmer's market.

The market runs every Thursday through the middle of October from 4pm to 8pm.
