Ben Franklin Transit Cancels Shuttle to Fair & Rodeo

KENNEWICK, Wash.-- Ben Franklin Transit announced that is will not be running its usual shuttle to the Benton Franklin Fair and Rodeo next week. The agency says its decision was based on the growing number of COVID-19 cases in the area.

“Our hearts are heavy and we are saddened to share this news. It has always been an honor and privilege to support our local Fair and our community during “The Best Week of Summer,” shared Gloria Boyce, General Manager for Ben Franklin Transit. “This will be the first time in over 30 years that BFT will not be a part of the Fair.”

Interim Director of Marketing and Communications Byron Olson added that it was not something the board took lightly.

"This was something that we struggled with because we know how much people value the transit service to and from the fair...In the end we had to balance public safety over all other considerations."

The agency is looking into possible alternatives, but notes that options appear limited.
