Washington state agricultural officials are tracking two Asian giant hornets after capturing, tagging and re-releasing them late last week. The state Department of Agriculture says researchers caught the pair of so-called murder hornets on Friday near the Canadian border. The hornets were trapped in the same area where an Asian giant hornet was seen attacking a wasp nest last Wednesday, marking the first appearance of a murder hornet so far this year. The area is about two miles east of where an Asian giant hornet nest was eradicated last year. The hornets are invasive to the U.S. and are known for destroying beehives and wasp nests.
