(Kennewick, WA) -- It's being called a "BIN Attack." Gesa Credit Union says it resulted in some members recently having thousands of dollars stolen from their accounts. It's an incident in which a thief takes mostly random numbers and attempts to use them for credit and debit card purchases. The scam works when some of the accounts match. Gesa representatives say all account members who were affected had their funds reimbursed, but they recommend making sure your contact information is up to date and turning on card alerts. Gesa wasn't the only one, as other financial institutions in the area may have been hit as well. If you detect suspicious activity on any of your accounts, make sure you contact your bank or credit union.
