Flooding is causing problems for the Yakima after the snow melt and rain from the mountains has caused several creeks to overflow.

Mike Bastinelli with Yakima police says 19 homes had to be evacuated this morning and a business park after flooding continued to move east.

Bastinelli says a levee off 40th West which broke Wednesday is also contributing to the fast moving water which caused evacuations at Lake Aspen Village. He says two small lakes nearby the homes overflowed overnight. All the homeowners, were able to find places to go. City workers have been able to contain the flooding thanks to crews pumping the water into the city septic system.

The flooding then moved toward the Lake Aspen Business Complex and 16th, which is a four-lane road. Officers have had to block two lanes of the street due to water.

He says at this point there is too much water with nowhere to go. If anyone sees rising flood waters around their homes, Bastinelli says they have set up a public concern line with the department, (509) 575-6165. The city has also set up a shelter at 72nd and Summit View, at the Summit View Christ Church.

"Hope there is no more problems, but like I said there is a lot of snow pack that water, the river and streams are overflowing and that water has to go somewhere. So if anyone had flooding in their area or in their neighborhood we are urging people to contact them," says Bastinelli.

You can see from video of the neighborhood below how much water they were dealing with.
