A Washington state trooper is being recognized for pulling a badly hurt driver from a burning car.

The crash happened on I-90 early Thursday morning after the driver tried to flee from troopers.

Trooper Bryan Moore reports State Trooper Darin Fehlhafer was on patrol 2 miles west of Cle Elum when he clocked the car at over 120 mph.

When the driver failed to pull over and attempted to exit I-90 near Thorp, the driver lost control and the vehicle hit a parked semi on the shoulder and burst into flames.

Trooper Moore said Fehlhafer risked his own life to pull the driver from the car.

Chase Sukert, from Cle Elum, was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Sukert was out on a $750,000 bond from a drug arrest tied to a case of a brutal beating of a South Dakota Highway Patrol Trooper after a routine traffic stop last October.
