KENNEWICK, WA--Tri-City Americans GM Bob Tory today announced that the team has hired former professional hockey player and Tri-City alum/co-owner Stu Barnes to be the program's 15th Head Coach.


Barnes, 50, began his hockey career with the St. Albert Saints of the Alberta Junior Hockey league in 1986 before jumping to the WHL. He was then drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in the 1989 Entry Draft following an impressive season with the Tri-City Americans. Barnes went on to play for 16 years. Most recently, he worked as a Pro Scout for the NHL's Seattle Kraken.


The team will host Portland inside the Toyota Center for its season opener on Friday, October 1st. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.
