TOPPENISH, Wash.-- Toppenish Police have a man in custody in connection with a domestic violence investigation that allegedly started with a 31-year old man holding his girlfriend at gunpoint.

According to a press release, officers arrived at a home in the 200 block of North E. Street at about 9:00 a.m. Friday for a report of a possible hostage situation.

Police were told that the suspect was in a back bedroom, armed with a rifle, and had his 21-year old girlfriend with him.

The Yakima County Sheriff's Office, Zillah Police Department, and Washington State Patrol also responded.

One team of law enforcement officers entered the home after several failed attempts to negotiate with the suspect. Once officers were in the home, the man came out of the bedroom and surrendered without incident.

Investigators located a rifle in a shed behind the property.

The suspect faces 6 counts of Unlawful Imprisonment, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, 1st Degree Burglary, and Felony Harassment.

Police did not provide any information about the whereabouts or the condition of the woman.
