Some people in Pasco may find their tap water slightly discolored Thursday.

The city of Pasco Public Works Department says they will start flushing the hydrants and lines starting Thursday.

"Kinda a preventive maintenance type activity, just to make sure the lines are as clean as possible and that we have proper flow in the lines," says Water Distribution Manager Derek Wiitala.

Wiitala says if those homeowners living between Ainsworth and Sylvester from 5th to 10th Ave. find dirty water, run the bathtub for about 5-10 minutes. He adds it will not cause any health concerns but if the problem continues, you can call the department at 509-545-3463. He says the 105 homes that may have been impacted should have received a flyer on their door.

Drivers may also notice water on the roadways and near intersections in the area as crews work on the hydrants.

This is the first flushing and depending on how it goes the department will routinely rotate around the city, until the entire system is flushed out. Wiitala says it will take a few years to each the entire city.
