OR Secretary of State Steps up Cyber Security After Breach of Campaign Finance Firm
(Salem, OR) -- They have NOT been hacked. That's the work from the Oregon Secretary of State after the Elections Division learned that a web hosting provider used by one campaign finance firm was a victim of a ransomware attack. The breach of Opus Interactive and C&E Systems meant client’s log-in credentials for ORESTAR accounts. All affected ORESTAR users will receive a notification and have been sent detailed instructions on how to proceed.
Officials stress no systems related to elections administration were compromised, and no sensitive information was taken.
“Out of an abundance of caution, we are taking steps to protect isolated users impacted by the attack, and communicating proactively about the issue to prevent confusion.” said Chris Molin, Oregon Secretary of State Information Systems Division Director.
Information on the ransomware attack is available on Opus Interactive’s website.
