The 22-year-long embezzlement scheme by now former Franklin county Public Works Director Dennis Huston led to new software to keep better track of county finances.

Auditor Matt Beaton says it has taken longer than he had wished, but it is coming together.

"What we need is the leadership and guidance that will use the software and use the metric, numbers that come out of it, to better mange the county's financials," says Beaton.

He said the software needs to be in place to restore the public's faith in government.

Huston was sentenced to 16 years in prison for the theft of $2.8 million.
