KENNEWICK, Wash.-

A bill prohibiting the use of Native American names, symbols, or mascots at Washington schools has passed by a margin of 92-5 in the house and now moves to the senate for consideration

If approved by the full legislature and signed by Governor Jay Inslee, the ban would take effect January 1.

Under the measure, school districts would be required to select a new mascot, symbol or name by December 31 to take effect by the end of the 2021-22 school year.
