Kennewick officers are investigating a stabbing which left a woman in the hospital in critical condition and her husband behind bars.

Detective Sergeant Ryan Kelly says they were called out to the 500 Block of South Olympia Street Wednesday afternoon for what appears to be a domestic violence-related incident. He says they are still investigating what lead up to the stabbing.

Kelly says 40-year-old Dania Alhafeth was found suffering from multiple stab wounds and was taken to the hospital. He says she survived surgery and is in stable but critical condition, as of Thursday morning.

Officers say upon further investigation they determined her husband, 46-year-old Abdul Rahman U Sweidan was suspected of stabbing her. After the stabbing Wednesday, Kelly says Rahman U Sweidan went to Trios on his own for several minor cuts and that is where officers contacted him. Kelley could not confirm if those cuts occurred during the stabbing or were from a separate incident. The 46-year-old was later booked in to Benton County Jail on suspicion of First Degree Assault Domestic Violence.

During the time of the stabbing, a small child was in the home. Kelley says that child is safe and being looked after by a "responsible adult."

He says they are continuing to interview the family and investigate the crime scene.
