A 40-year-old man is safely back home after getting his kayak stuck in a log jam east of Cle Elum on the Yakima River.

The Kittitas County Sheriff's Office Swift Water Rescue says they were called out after Jason Phelps from Seattle launched his kayak on the river near SR 970 at the Fish and Wildlife Boat Launch around 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Phelps says he was going around the second bend, just south of the launch when he got stuck on a log jam. He was able to climb on top of the jam Sunday and secure his kayak to the logs until he was rescued.

Sheriff's deputies say they responded in a jet boat from around Bristol Flats and transported him back to that same area. They say he was not hurt in the incident.
