A pair of whistleblowers who sounded the alarm about Mayor Jenny Durkan's missing text messages are filing five-million-dollar claims against the city. A whistleblower report released in May found that Durkan's office mishandled public records requests after learning that roughly ten months of the mayor's text messages were missing. The missing text messages were sent between August of 2019 and June of 2020, including the tumultuous weeks when the Seattle Police Department faced criticism for using tear gas against Black Lives Matter protesters.
