Benton County, WA--Personnel at the Department of Energy's Hanford Site will be running an emergency drill on Thursday, August 19. They'll be activating emergency sirens between 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. in the Hanford Site’s 300 Area, near the Columbia River and approximately one mile north of Richland, and in the site’s 400 Area six miles northwest of Richland.


Periodic emergency drills and alarms are conducted at Hanford facilities in order to test emergency equipment, and train workers on emergency response procedures.


In the event of a real emergency, county officials would also activate the Emergency Alert System to broadcast information to the public via local radio and television stations.
