It has been open for a few weeks, but this Friday the creators of Candy Mountain trail will officially celebrate the new hike.

Co-Founder of Friends of Badger Mountain, Sharon Grant says it is a lot less steep than Badger Mountain.

"It is a beautiful trail, it winds around through lovely shrub set habitat, it kinda winds it way to the top, you're going to see different kinds of views than you do on Badger," says Grant.

Friends of Badger Mountain built the trail and parking lot off Dallas Road at Private Road 669 on all volunteer hours. The organizations dream started 14 years ago, with the goal to create a 20-mile ridge line trail stretching from Richland’s Amon Basin to the Yakima River.

The grand opening event is at 11:00 a.m. just off Dallas Road at the trail head with speakers and ribbon cutting planned, followed by an inaugural hike.
