An Amber Alert for a 1-year-old child, kidnapped at gunpoint, has been cancelled after he was found safely.

The Yakima police department says an investigation revealed that the child's mother and father divorced but did not come up with a custody agreement. Monday night officers say the child's parents got into an argument about who should have the child. Officers say the father was able to keep the child and had the 1-year-old at his apartment.

Later on that night, Police say the child's uncle, Manuel Mendoza, broke down the back door of a home of the 800 block of Central Avenue and at gunpoint took Leonnel Barajas.

Detectives worked around the clock and were able to find Mendoza in Yakima. He was taken into custody near Lincoln Ave and Clarke Ave Tuesday morning. Using that information, officers located the child and his mother, Jessica Mendoza. The child was not hurt.

Officers say the child's uncle now faces a number of charges including burglary and kidnapping. The child's mother is currently being interviewed and police say she may or may not face charged. The child is in protective custody and they will be working with the family to determine the child's permanent home.
